Doha Hosts Talks on Afghanistan’s Role in Regional Connectivity

Zakir Jalali, Deputy Political Director at the Taliban-led Foreign Ministry, has announced that “Afghanistan’s role in regional connectivity” will be the main focus of discussions at the Doha International Forum. This specialized meeting, held in the Qatari capital, will explore various aspects of the subject, considered vital to Afghanistan’s economic future.

According to Jalali, Dr. Abdul Hai Qanit will represent Afghanistan in this high-level discussion. Ismatulla Irgashev, Uzbekistan’s special envoy, and Faisal bin Abdullah, special representative of the Qatari Foreign Ministry, will also participate, contributing regional perspectives to the debate.

As a landlocked country, Afghanistan has historically relied on transit routes and strong regional ties for economic development and access to global markets. The Doha International Forum, recognized as a significant platform for dialogue on regional and global affairs, presents the Taliban administration with an opportunity to present its views on this critical issue.

However, many Afghan economic analysts and citizens argue that before advancing regional connectivity projects, the country’s internal infrastructure must be significantly improved and lasting security established nationwide to attract meaningful regional investment. Afghanistan’s deep economic crisis and restrictions on free trade remain major obstacles on this path.
