Hundreds of Afghan Migrant Families Return Home in a Single Day

Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesperson for the Taliban administration, announced that on Sunday (December 6), approximately 581 Afghan migrant families returned to the country from neighboring nations. According to Fitrat, these families re-entered Afghanistan through various border crossings, including Spin Boldak in Kandahar province, Torkham, Islam Qala in Herat, and the Silk Road crossing in Nimroz.

In a statement released on Monday, December 7, Fitrat detailed that 391 of the families—comprising a total of 2,183 Afghan nationals—returned via the Spin Boldak border crossing alone. He added that some of these families have since been relocated to the provinces of Kandahar, Herat, Zabul, Ghazni, Khost, and Kabul.

According to the same statement, 99 families entered Afghanistan through the Torkham crossing, 14 via the Islam Qala crossing, and 54 through the Silk Road route in Nimroz province. This mass return of migrants comes as Afghanistan continues to grapple with an economic crisis, limited resources, and inadequate access to essential services. The Taliban administration faces significant challenges in resettling these families and providing them with necessary assistance.
