Overnight Clashes Erupt Between Taliban and Pakistani Forces in Spin Boldak

Taliban-affiliated forces have responded to fresh attacks by the Pakistani military in Spin Boldak district of Afghanistan’s Kandahar province. The clashes occurred overnight, according to Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, who said Pakistani forces initiated the assault and Taliban fighters retaliated accordingly.
Spin Boldak, located along the Durand Line in southern Afghanistan, has long been a flashpoint for tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan. In recent years, the area has witnessed several deadly confrontations between border forces of the two countries.
Recurrent cross-border incursions by Pakistani forces in the region raise serious concerns about the Taliban administration’s capacity to secure Afghanistan’s frontiers. Previous Afghan governments had repeatedly condemned such border violations by Pakistan, but these incidents have reportedly increased since the Taliban took control of the country two years ago.
While the Taliban administration claims it defends Afghanistan’s territorial integrity, analysts argue that their reactive approach and lack of a coherent strategy are not sufficient to prevent continued encroachments on national sovereignty by the neighboring country.
