Herat Residents Voice Concern Over Frequent Winter Power Outages

With the arrival of winter and plummeting temperatures, residents of Herat province have expressed concern over frequent power outages affecting various parts of the region. According to local sources, electricity is being cut off at random hours throughout the day without prior notice, significantly disrupting daily life.
Several residents told local media that the state-run power company, Breshna, is not distributing electricity fairly across the city. They report that certain areas experience more frequent outages than others. This issue, they say, has not only impacted the lives of citizens but has also disrupted factories and businesses that rely heavily on electricity.
Some residents believe that given the financial challenges many families face in purchasing fuel for heating, electricity remains their only viable source of warmth. However, the recurring, unannounced blackouts have left people struggling to cope amid the harsh winter cold.
Locals pointed to a similar pattern of outages during the summer, saying the problem has persisted for some time. They added that the Taliban administration has yet to take any concrete steps to resolve the issue. The continued silence and inaction from Taliban officials have fueled concerns over the government’s disregard for the basic needs of its citizens.
