Taliban Envoy Meets Azerbaijani Justice Official Over Afghan Prisoners

In a continued effort by the Taliban administration to address the situation of Afghan citizens imprisoned abroad, Dr. Mohammad Faisal, the Taliban’s representative in Baku, has met with MirSalih Seyidov, Deputy Minister of Justice and Head of Azerbaijan’s Prison Authority.

According to a statement from the Taliban embassy in Azerbaijan, the two officials discussed the legal status of Afghan nationals incarcerated in the country. The talks aimed to improve their legal conditions and address the challenges they face.

The Azerbaijani official expressed confidence in the current conditions and pledged cooperation, stating that the Azerbaijani government is ready to take steps to resolve issues and ensure the rights of Afghan prisoners are upheld.

Despite the Taliban’s own poor record on human rights and the treatment of prisoners within Afghanistan, the group seeks adherence to legal standards from other countries. These meetings are taking place even as human rights organizations continue to criticize the Taliban’s handling of detainees at home.
