Taliban Governor in Faryab Seizes UNAMA Assets

Local sources in Afghanistan’s Faryab province say the Taliban administration has seized the assets of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in the region, preventing their transfer.
According to the sources, the UNAMA office in Faryab is scheduled to close down by the end of this year due to budget cuts. However, efforts to transfer its equipment and property have been obstructed by the Taliban.
On Monday, December 10, when UNAMA staff attempted to move office furniture and assets to Balkh province, Taliban-appointed governor Abdul Ahad Fazli reportedly blocked the operation and confiscated the items.
So far, UNAMA has not issued an official statement regarding the Taliban’s actions in Faryab, and the Taliban authorities have remained silent on the conduct of their appointed governor.
The Taliban’s unilateral actions against international organizations have raised concerns, with repeated incidents prompting serious questions about the group’s commitment to engaging with international institutions and adhering to global norms and regulations.
