Taliban and Chinese Ambassador Discuss Deadly Border Incident

Following a deadly attack near the Tajikistan border that claimed the lives of several Chinese nationals, Afghanistan’s Taliban administration’s Deputy Minister of Finance and Administration in the Foreign Ministry met with the Chinese Ambassador in Kabul.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral relations, security concerns, and the impact of the border incident on cooperation between China and Afghanistan.

Mohammad Naeem, a senior Taliban official, described the attack as an act carried out by individuals seeking to undermine trust between China and Afghanistan.

Zia Ahmad Takal, head of public relations for the Taliban-run Foreign Ministry, said the Chinese ambassador expressed appreciation for the Taliban administration’s stance and efforts to implement security measures. According to Takal, the ambassador stated that the perpetrators of the incident aim to damage relations between the two countries.

The incident comes at a time when China is among the few countries to maintain official relations with the Taliban government in Afghanistan. However, such attacks threaten the security of bilateral cooperation.

While the Taliban administration has previously pledged to ensure the safety of diplomats and foreign economic projects, the recurrence of such incidents highlights ongoing security challenges.
