UNICEF Calls for Protection of Afghan Women and Girls’ Fundamental Rights

UNICEF’s representative in Afghanistan has called for guaranteeing the fundamental rights of Afghan women and girls during the global campaign ’16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.’
Dr. Tajudeen Oyewale, UNICEF’s representative in Afghanistan, emphasized in a message on social media that every woman and girl in the country deserves a future where their rights to health, education, and security are assured. He highlighted the importance of investing in services led by women, describing such efforts as a way to restore hope and create positive change in their lives.
The ’16 Days of Activism’ campaign, which begins on November 25—International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women—aims to end all forms of violence against women around the world. In Afghanistan, these appeals carry particular weight amid the Taliban’s ongoing suppression of women and the widespread restrictions imposed on their daily lives and basic freedoms.
Since the Taliban’s return to power in 2021, they have severely restricted women’s access to education, employment, and public life. International organizations have repeatedly urged the group to lift these limitations. UNICEF’s representative, using the slogan “For all women and girls,” called for collective efforts to bring constructive change to their lives.
