Taliban Media Chief Meets Kabul News Agencies Amid Access Concerns

On Tuesday, December 2, 2025, Mawlawi Naeemulhaq Haqqani, head of the Taliban-led Government Media and Information Center (GMIC), paid an official visit to the offices of Pajhwok News Agency and Salam Watandar Radio in Kabul.
During the meetings, the media outlets’ representatives raised concerns about barriers to accessing information, urging the Taliban administration to provide greater support and cooperation in improving information dissemination and removing existing obstacles.
Although GMIC officials pledged to enhance bilateral cooperation, it remained unclear what concrete steps would be taken to address the journalists’ concerns.
Over the past two years, the Taliban administration has drawn sharp criticism from media organizations and Afghan journalists for its restrictions on the free flow of information, increasing pressure on media outlets, and widespread censorship.
At the conclusion of the meetings, both sides emphasized the need to continue cooperation and coordination in the media sector. However, persistent restrictions and the absence of concrete guarantees for media freedom under the current government continue to pose serious challenges to access to information.
