Taliban Approves Infrastructure Projects Worth Over 1.5 Billion Afghanis

The Taliban administration has approved contracts for multiple infrastructure projects valued at more than 1.5 billion Afghanis, according to a statement released on Tuesday. The decision was made by the National Procurement Commission, chaired by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Taliban’s deputy prime minister for economic affairs.

Among the 11 approved projects are the construction of a runway at Ghor Airport, the development of over 17 kilometers of road in Dahaneh Ghori district of Baghlan Province, and the paving of the Zargaran-to-Gardez road in Paktika Province.

Additionally, the contract for surveying, design, and technical testing of the 220-kilovolt Breshkab power substation in Kabul has also received approval.

Economic experts have raised concerns over the Taliban’s procurement process, citing a lack of transparency, accountability, and scientific evaluation. In the absence of oversight institutions and civil society participation, public trust in the fair and effective implementation of such projects remains seriously in question.
