Afghanistan and Iran Stress Expansion of Renewable Energy Cooperation

Dr. Abdul Bari Omar, CEO of Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), met with Alireza Bikdeli, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kabul, to emphasize the expansion of cooperation in the field of renewable and clean energy. According to a statement from DABS, the two parties discussed opportunities for technical collaboration and joint investments in sustainable energy production.

Omar highlighted the increasing level of investment in renewable energy in Afghanistan and stressed the critical need to develop domestic capabilities and equipment. He noted that the renewable energy sector can play a key role in reducing reliance on foreign resources and in providing nationwide electricity.

In addition to energy discussions, the Iranian ambassador emphasized the cultural and civilizational ties between Iran and Afghanistan and called for stronger bilateral cooperation. He also assured that Iran is fully prepared to cooperate in all areas, including facilitating the visa process for Afghan technical engineers.

This comes as the Taliban administration, despite repeated promises to improve energy infrastructure, has yet to create a transparent, sustainable, and long-term investment environment in the sector. Lack of clear policy, international isolation, and inability to manage projects are considered major obstacles to the development of renewable energy resources in Afghanistan.
