Taliban Delegation Visits Tajikistan Amid Border Tensions

The General Directorate of Border Police under the Taliban administration has announced that a delegation led by Mawlawi Mohammad Ismail Ghaznawi, the governor of Badakhshan, recently traveled to the Republic of Tajikistan. The visit comes at a time when border relations between Afghanistan and Tajikistan, particularly in mountainous areas, have been fraught with challenges.

Abdullah Oqab Farooqi, a spokesperson for the Directorate, stated that Mawlawi Abdulmanan Hassan, the deputy military head of the department, was also part of the delegation. According to Farooqi, the purpose of the visit was to discuss strengthening order at border crossings and enhancing coordination on border issues.

Officials from the Taliban administration reported that the delegation met with the governor of the autonomous mountain region of Badakhshan in Tajikistan, the deputy national border security chief, and several other security officials. However, no further details about the content of the discussions or any potential agreements have been disclosed.

The trip comes despite the fact that the Taliban administration has not been officially recognized by the Tajik government. The presence of Taliban delegations in neighboring countries has raised regional concerns. The lack of transparency regarding the substance of such meetings has added to the uncertainty surrounding cross-border relations under Taliban control.
