Israel Signs UN Statement Criticizing China’s Human Rights Record

Israel has joined a United Nations statement criticizing alleged human rights violations in China, attracting widespread media attention. This marks a potential shift in Tel Aviv’s foreign policy towards Beijing.

In the past, Israel had refrained from endorsing such statements that condemn China’s human rights practices. Analysts attributed this stance to political and economic calculations by the Israeli government—an approach that appears to have changed with the nation’s backing of the latest declaration.

The United States delegation formally presented the statement at the United Nations on November 21 this year. Alongside the U.S., fifteen other countries—including the United Kingdom, Japan, and Australia—have endorsed the document.

The statement specifically accuses the Chinese government of human rights abuses—allegations that Chinese officials have repeatedly denied. While Western nations seek to present a united stance on the issue, Israel’s inclusion highlights a notable shift in its international positioning.
