Iranian Police Arrest Suspect in Killing of Afghan Youth in Isfahan

Tehran police have announced the arrest of a man suspected of killing a young Afghan migrant in the Baharestan district of the Iranian capital. According to the deputy head of Tehran’s criminal investigations unit, the suspect fled to various locations across Iran after committing the crime but was ultimately apprehended in Shahreza, a district in the province of Isfahan, following a surveillance and pursuit operation by law enforcement.
According to Tehran police, the incident occurred when the victim was stabbed three times inside his home. Initial investigations suggest that the perpetrator was a close friend of the victim and had entered the residence without causing any damage to the entrance—raising the likelihood that he was invited in.
Police were able to identify the suspect and trace his escape route through footage obtained from surveillance cameras. He reportedly first traveled to Pakdasht before hiding in a cattle farm near Shahreza. The arrest was made following coordination with judicial authorities and close monitoring of the suspect’s movements.
The suspect, now in police custody, has confessed to the murder, citing revenge over financial disputes between the victim and his brother as the motive.
Tehran police have stated that the victim’s body has been transferred to the forensic department for further investigation, and inquiries into the motive and additional details of the case are ongoing.
This is not the first time Afghan residents in Iran have been targets of violence. Given ongoing ethnic tensions and the precarious legal status of Afghan migrants in the country, calls are growing for Iranian authorities to take stronger measures to ensure justice and protect the fundamental rights of Afghan nationals living in Iran.
