Road Construction Project Launched in Ghor with WFP Funding

The Directorate of Rural Rehabilitation and Development in Ghor province has launched a project to construct and repair 70 kilometers of roads in the districts of Dawlina, Taywara, Marghab, Shahrak, and Tulak. The project is financially supported by the World Food Programme (WFP).

Zabiullah Ghawsizadeh, the head of the media office at the directorate, said the primary goal of the project is to improve transportation infrastructure and create job opportunities for thousands of residents in remote villages. According to him, 2,000 individuals will be employed during the project, and they will receive monthly food packages including flour, rice, oil, salt, and lentils.

This project comes amid ongoing criticism of the Taliban administration, which has repeatedly promised to address the basic needs of the public but has largely neglected infrastructure development, especially in underprivileged provinces. The funding of this initiative by an international organization underscores the country’s heavy reliance on foreign aid for its reconstruction efforts.

Residents of Ghor, who have long complained about the lack of proper roads, hope that the completion of this project will help alleviate some of their daily struggles with transportation and the delivery of agricultural products. However, without sustained support and genuine commitment from the government, such initiatives cannot fully meet the growing and widespread needs of rural areas.
