Blaze Destroys Shops and Clinic in Badakhshan’s Yaftal-e-Payan Market

Local officials in Badakhshan province have confirmed a major fire in the market area of Yaftal-e-Payan district, which caused significant financial damage. The incident occurred last night due to an electrical short circuit, setting fire to two motorcycle and spare parts shops and a health center, all of which sustained heavy losses.

Initial assessments estimate the financial damage at nearly 10 million Afghanis. Although the fire broke out during the night, extinguishing efforts and an investigation continued into the morning.

Qari Samiullah Rasouli, the district governor of Yaftal-e-Payan, stated that combined teams from the police command, intelligence units, and the Taliban’s morality enforcement agency were dispatched to the scene around 5 a.m. to begin their inquiry.

Negligence in electrical networks and the lack of safety infrastructure have long been major concerns in Afghan cities. However, Taliban-run agencies have yet to implement serious preventive measures. Local residents are demanding accountability from authorities and immediate support for those affected.
