Taliban-Appointed Industry Minister Travels to Turkey for ECO Summit

Nooruddin Azizi, who has been appointed by the Taliban administration as Minister of Industry and Commerce, has traveled to Turkey to participate in the ministerial meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO). The Taliban-run Ministry of Industry and Commerce announced that the trip was made at the official invitation of the Turkish government.

According to the released information, in addition to attending the ECO ministerial meeting, Mr. Azizi will also take part in the opening ceremony of the 2025 Istanbul Halal Expo. This event is considered one of the world’s largest exhibitions focused on halal products.

During the visit, Azizi is also expected to meet with representatives of Turkey’s private sector to discuss potential investment opportunities in Afghanistan. This comes as Afghanistan faces significant roadblocks to foreign investment due to the Taliban administration’s lack of international recognition and the country’s ongoing economic and legal instability.

The Taliban administration’s efforts to engage in regional forums come amid widespread skepticism among Afghan citizens, many of whom see such initiatives as futile given the curtailing of freedoms, economic hardships, and the absence of a functional legal system in the country.
