Taliban Industry Minister Meets Afghan Businesspeople in India

Nooruddin Azizi, the Taliban-appointed acting Minister of Industry and Commerce, met with a group of Afghan businesspeople residing in India during his recent visit to the country.

In the meeting, Azizi emphasized what he described as the “achievements of the Islamic Emirate” and pledged that the concerns and demands raised by the businesspeople would be reviewed. He added that the Taliban administration has taken serious and practical steps to address the challenges faced by Afghan traders living abroad, particularly in India.

Nevertheless, many Afghan entrepreneurs have expressed concerns about conducting business within Afghanistan due to banking restrictions, currency fluctuations, and a lack of legal security under Taliban rule.

Observers believe that the Taliban’s promises to improve the country’s economic conditions are unlikely to restore business confidence in domestic markets without international legitimacy and transparency in economic policies.
