Pakistani Police Detain Afghan Journalist in Islamabad Amid Crackdown

In the latest wave of systematic arrests of Afghan migrants in Pakistan, credible sources have told Amu TV that Pakistani police have detained Afghan journalist Noorullah Akbari in the Faisal Town area of Islamabad.

According to sources, the incident occurred on the morning of Monday, November 23. Following his arrest, Akbari was reportedly transferred to a temporary detention facility known as ‘Haji Camp’, where detained migrants are held before deportation.

The journalist’s arrest comes amid increasing pressure on Afghan asylum seekers in Pakistan, which has recently launched a broad crackdown on the presence of thousands of undocumented migrants. These actions have intensified as political tensions and border disputes between Islamabad and the Taliban administration escalate.

Afghan media organizations and human rights groups have warned that the detention of journalists, particularly those living in unsafe and undocumented conditions, poses a serious threat to freedom of expression and human rights. They have also criticized the Taliban regime for restricting media activity within Afghanistan, forcing many journalists to flee the country while remaining at risk of persecution even abroad.
