Former Pakistani Diplomat Warns Taliban Incapable of Controlling Afghanistan

Asif Durrani, Pakistan’s former senior diplomat for Afghan affairs, has warned that the Taliban administration lacks the capacity to manage Afghanistan’s security and political situation, and urged regional countries to take serious action to prevent further crisis.

In a message posted Monday on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Durrani stated that the United Nations has confirmed the presence of more than 20 terrorist groups in Afghanistan, calling the situation a serious threat to regional security.

Expressing concern over the growing influence of extremist groups within Afghanistan, Durrani said that not only has the Taliban failed to suppress these organizations, but it has also provided an environment conducive to their expansion and operations.

He called on neighboring countries and regional stakeholders to move beyond a passive stance and adopt a unified regional strategy to address the escalating threat, emphasizing the importance of joint security interests. His remarks once again raise serious questions about the Taliban’s ability to maintain stability and combat terrorism in Afghanistan.
