High-Level Turkish Delegation to Visit Islamabad in Bid to Mediate Afghanistan-Pakistan Tensions

The Turkish Embassy in Islamabad has announced the upcoming visit of a high-ranking delegation from Turkey to Pakistan, aimed at mediating the escalating tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
According to local media, Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan Irfan Nezirioglu stated that the delegation will arrive in Islamabad next week. The group is expected to include the head of Turkey’s intelligence agency as well as several key ministers.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had previously acknowledged that diplomatic efforts to resolve the disputes between Kabul and Islamabad had failed to yield results, highlighting the need to dispatch a senior delegation to finalize a ceasefire agreement.
This Turkish initiative comes at a time when hostility between the Taliban administration in Afghanistan and the government of Pakistan has intensified significantly, particularly along the Durand Line. In recent weeks, border clashes, mutual accusations, and the deportation of Afghan refugees from Pakistan have deepened the crisis.
Although Turkey has sought to enhance its role as a regional mediator in recent years, analysts remain divided over the potential effectiveness of the visit. Many believe that as long as the Taliban administration in Afghanistan lacks both domestic and international legitimacy, any formal agreements with it will face serious challenges.
