Taliban Announce Completion of Development Projects in Kandahar and Maidan Wardak

The Taliban-led Department of Rural Rehabilitation and Development in Kandahar province has announced the completion and inauguration of a small irrigation dam in Hoot-Ghara village, Spin Boldak district. The project reportedly cost over 2.5 million Afghanis.
According to official details, the dam was constructed to manage rainwater and has a storage capacity of 140,000 cubic meters. It measures 100 meters in length and 5 meters in height. The construction phase also provided temporary employment for dozens of local workers.
The Taliban administration claims that the dam’s operation will help regulate groundwater levels in the area. However, the ongoing lack of response from responsible institutions to the broader needs of residents for sustainable water resources remains a significant concern.
Meanwhile, the Department of Rural Rehabilitation and Development in Maidan Wardak has reported the completion and handover of 124 construction and infrastructure projects across various areas of Jaghatu district. These projects, which cost over 170 million Afghanis, include the construction of rural roads, bridges and culverts, retaining walls, and irrigation systems.
While the Taliban present development projects as part of reconstruction efforts, persistent concerns over transparency and the absence of independent oversight continue to raise questions about the effectiveness and fairness in the implementation of these initiatives.
