Intense Clashes Erupt Between SDF and Syrian Regime Forces in Raqqa

In the latest developments from eastern Syria, local sources report fierce clashes between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and armed units affiliated with the Ministry of Defense of the Julani regime near the Ghanem al-Ali area, located in the southern part of Raqqa province.
According to SDF sources, the confrontations have primarily occurred in parts of eastern Raqqa that are believed to be sites where remnants of the Islamic State (ISIS) have launched drone attacks. SDF officials claim their military operations were carried out in response to espionage activities and suspicious aerial movements.
Meanwhile, Syrian state media, including the Al-Ikhbariyah network, reported that after a sudden raid by SDF forces on a Syrian army position near the city of Maadan, heavy fighting broke out in the area. Despite conflicting claims from both sides, no detailed information regarding casualties or material damage has been released so far.
Eastern Syria—particularly Raqqa province—has witnessed ongoing tensions in recent years among local forces, rebel groups, ISIS remnants, and the Syrian army. The Taliban administration, which has consistently maintained indirect support for regimes like the Julani regime, has not taken a clear stance on the escalating violence in the region. Stability in the Middle East also has implications for Afghanistan’s security future.
