Taliban Briefs Diplomats on Failed Istanbul Talks with Pakistan

Dr. Mohammad Naeem, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Taliban administration, met with foreign diplomats in Kabul on Tuesday to provide details about the recent failed talks between Afghan and Pakistani representatives in Istanbul.
According to Naeem, the Pakistani delegation presented demands that, from the Taliban administration’s perspective, were neither practical nor based on reality. He added that Pakistan’s attempt to link its security issues to Afghanistan indicated the presence of factions within the Pakistani military and security structures that are not interested in resolving disputes through negotiation.
Despite efforts by international mediators, Naeem stated that Pakistan’s uncooperative stance and irresponsible behavior led to the collapse of the talks. He asserted that the Taliban administration had shown goodwill, but progress was hindered by a lack of coordination on Pakistan’s part.
Naeem further emphasized ongoing contact with mediating countries and said that if Pakistan reconsiders its approach and makes reasonable demands, the Taliban administration is prepared to pursue a diplomatic solution to ease tensions. Nevertheless, the negotiation process remains stalled, and concerns about escalating tensions along the border persist.
