UNDP Launches Environmental Restoration Projects in Kapisa, Afghanistan

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has announced the implementation of a series of environmental restoration projects in Afghanistan’s Kapisa province, combining nature-based and engineering solutions. These initiatives aim to protect lives, restore land, and strengthen local communities.

According to the UNDP, more than 80,000 residents of Kapisa have so far benefited from the projects, including 28,800 women and 24,000 children. The overarching goal of the program is to enhance the resilience of local communities against environmental crises.

The implementation of such projects is considered crucial, particularly at a time when the Taliban administration has suspended many civil and social development initiatives. For residents of areas affected by climate change, these efforts are deemed vital.

However, the lack of effective oversight and the obstacles imposed by the Taliban authorities have posed significant challenges to the execution of reconstruction and development projects across many provinces. International organizations have repeatedly called for unimpeded access to carry out humanitarian work.
