Reconstruction of Doshi-Bamiyan Road Continues in Several Phases

The Taliban’s Public Works Directorate has announced the ongoing reconstruction and expansion of a 170-kilometer road between Doshi district in Baghlan province and the central province of Bamiyan. The project is underway in multiple sections, each progressing at different rates.

According to information released by the directorate, heavy excavation work is currently being carried out on the first 22 kilometers of the route. Simultaneously, light digging is underway along another 18-kilometer stretch, while leveling and filling operations are nearing completion on a separate 22-kilometer section.

The Doshi–Bamiyan road is considered a vital transport artery for Afghanistan’s central regions. It serves as an alternative to the Salang Highway, which is often closed due to snowfall, landslides, or technical maintenance. In such cases, travelers and residents rely on the Bamiyan route for access.

Despite the strategic importance of this road, a lack of transparency in project implementation and widespread public distrust in the Taliban administration have raised concerns about the quality and timely completion of the work. Similar projects managed by the Taliban in the past have failed to yield results due to inadequate technical oversight.
