US Cancels Visit of Lebanese Army Chief Over Statement Criticizing Israel

The United States has canceled a planned visit to Washington by Lebanese Army Commander Joseph Aoun, originally scheduled for Tuesday, in response to a controversial statement issued by the Lebanese military.
According to a report by Lebanon’s ‘Al Jadeed’ television network, the decision stems from U.S. authorities’ dissatisfaction with the Lebanese army’s recent stance on ongoing Israeli incursions into Lebanese territory. The statement in question, released by the Lebanese military leadership on Sunday, accused Israel of openly violating Lebanon’s national sovereignty and targeting United Nations forces.
In reaction to the statement, influential U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham said the Lebanese army should not protest Israeli violations while continuing to ignore the issue of Hezbollah’s disarmament.
In light of these developments, the Lebanese Embassy in Washington has also canceled its official welcoming ceremony for the army commander. Meanwhile, the U.S. government has yet to respond to multiple ceasefire violations committed by the Israeli army along Lebanon’s borders.
These recent events underscore what many see as a double standard in U.S. regional policy, highlighting that the Taliban regime is not the only authority that remains silent in the face of aggression and repression.
