Over Two Thousand Boxes of Medicine Burned in Spin Boldak to Prevent Sale of Substandard Drugs

The Kandahar Department of Information and Culture has announced that over two thousand boxes of medicine were burned in Spin Boldak district. According to the department, the medicines were trafficked into Afghanistan from Pakistan.
The statement from the department noted that the burning process took place in Spin Boldak, a border area known as a key route for the movement and smuggling of goods. Local Taliban-appointed officials stated that the purpose of this action was to prevent the distribution of substandard medicines.
However, health experts have repeatedly emphasized that destroying medicines without providing transparent information about their type, quality, and associated risks can cause concern among residents — especially given the limited access to quality medicines in many parts of the country.
Spin Boldak in Kandahar province, due to its geographic and border location with Pakistan, is frequently reported as a main smuggling route for goods, particularly medicines and commercial products.
