Taliban Officials Review Agricultural Revenue Boost Plans in Economic Meeting

The latest session of the Technical Committee under the Taliban’s Economic Commission was held on Monday, November 16, 2024, at the Marmarin Palace. The meeting brought together representatives from various departments within the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock to discuss several proposals aimed at increasing agricultural and livestock revenues.
According to the Economic Deputy Office of the Prime Minister, the proposals were submitted by departments focused on agricultural research, improved seed distribution, livestock services, animal health, and plant protection and quarantine.
Following comprehensive discussions, the proposals were deemed “approvable” and referred to the Economic Commission for a final decision. Taliban officials said the initiatives could enhance both the quality and quantity of agricultural and livestock products, potentially expanding exports to regional countries.
However, it remains unclear how practical these proposals are, as the Taliban administration has failed to bring about significant changes in the agriculture and economic sectors despite holding similar meetings repeatedly over the past two years. A lack of transparency and accountability remains one of the key challenges limiting the execution of the administration’s economic plans.
