China Criticizes US Gaza Resolution as Incomplete at UN Security Council

China has criticized a draft resolution proposed by the United States on the situation in Gaza at the United Nations Security Council, saying the resolution fails to address the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said the resolution does not adequately address the fundamental issue of a two-state solution and lacks clarity on Gaza’s future after the end of the current conflict. “China abstained from voting on this resolution because it overlooks the creation of a Palestinian state as the essential solution to the crisis,” she said.

The Chinese official reiterated that China supports the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people to achieve their lawful rights and called for a comprehensive, lasting, and just peace in the region.

She also expressed China’s support for the UN Security Council’s efforts to secure a lasting ceasefire, address the humanitarian crisis, and facilitate reconstruction in Gaza.

These remarks were made during the most recent UN Security Council meeting, held Monday night in New York. Of the council’s 15 members, 13 voted in favor of the US-drafted resolution, while Russia and China abstained. The resolution outlines a legal framework for deploying international forces to uphold a ceasefire in Gaza.
