Cash Aid and Tents Distributed to Thousands in Eastern Afghanistan

The Red Crescent Society in Nangarhar province has confirmed the distribution of over 174.255 million Afghanis in cash assistance to vulnerable families in eastern Afghanistan. According to officials, the aid has reached more than 11,000 families over the past eight months, including those affected by earthquakes, returnees, and victims of armed conflict in the eastern provinces.

Fazl-ur-Rahman Fayyaz, head of the Red Crescent Society in Nangarhar, stated that in addition to financial aid, both food and non-food items have been provided to at-risk households. He added that 1,850 tents have also been set up during this period for earthquake victims and needy families in eastern regions of the country.

These efforts come amid ongoing humanitarian crises in eastern provinces, primarily driven by political instability, the return of displaced persons, and recurring natural disasters such as earthquakes. Relief workers say that insufficient support from the Taliban administration has made aid distribution increasingly difficult.

The current Taliban-led government has restricted many international organizations from operating in various parts of the country and has yet to implement an effective framework to address such crises. As a result, non-governmental aid organizations continue to shoulder the bulk of relief operations.
