Taliban Officials Participate in Uzbekistan Transport and Logistics Summit

A Taliban delegation, led by Mohammad Ishaq Sahibzada, Deputy Minister for Railways at the Ministry of Public Works, took part in the International Transport and Logistics Forum held from November 11 to 13 in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.
The summit was attended by officials from various regional countries as well as representatives of companies active in the railway sector. During the exhibition, transportation and logistics projects, achievements, and new technologies were showcased.
On the sidelines of the event, the Taliban’s Deputy Minister for Railways held separate meetings with railway officials from countries including the United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, as well as with representatives of countries involved in the ‘Afghan-Trans’ project.
Discussions focused on several key issues, including the launch of the Herat–Kandahar railway project, facilitating the transit of Afghan goods via Uzbekistan’s rail network, reducing the cost of commercial transit to and from China through Kazakhstan, and initiating technical and economic feasibility studies for the Afghan-Trans project.
Participants in the summit underscored the need to strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation in transport infrastructure. The participation of the Taliban-led Afghan delegation comes as Afghanistan faces severe economic challenges and international isolation, with access to such forums often arranged through unofficial channels.
