Woman and Teenage Girl Killed in Logar; Two Arrested in Connection

In a shocking incident in Afghanistan’s Logar province, a roughly 60-year-old woman and a 12-year-old girl were murdered inside their home in Pul-e-Alam, the provincial capital, during the night. The incident occurred on Friday evening, November 6, and has sparked widespread concern among local residents.
According to Taliban officials in Logar’s security directorate, two individuals have been arrested in connection with the crime. Authorities say the suspects initially rendered the victims unconscious before killing them with an axe. The Taliban administration also reported that around 200,000 Afghanis and 4,000 US dollars were stolen from the victims’ home.
Officials stated that the suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation, and that the case is currently under investigation. However, no detailed information has yet been released regarding the motive behind the killings, the nature of the suspects’ relationship with the victims, or how they gained access to the property.
Some human rights activists have expressed skepticism over the arrests and the Taliban’s statements, especially in the absence of independent judicial and legal oversight. They argue that ongoing insecurity, the lack of clear legal frameworks, and limited accountability from responsible institutions have contributed to a rise in violence—particularly against women and children—in Afghanistan.
