WHO Warns of Rising Measles Cases in Afghanistan

The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning that measles cases are on the rise in Afghanistan, urging families to vaccinate their children as soon as possible.

This international agency has recommended that, to prevent the spread of the disease, children should receive at least two doses of the measles vaccine. According to the WHO, timely action can prevent widespread outbreaks.

With the health system in crisis and medical activities curtailed following the Taliban’s takeover, the risk of transmission of preventable diseases like measles has increased. A shortage of vaccinations is one of the main reasons for the resurgence of diseases that were previously on the brink of eradication.

Health experts warn that neglecting to provide essential health services, especially in remote areas, threatens the lives of thousands of children. The Taliban administration is expected to implement vaccination programs widely and effectively, without discrimination, under the supervision of international organizations.
