Taliban Blames Pakistan for Deadlock in Istanbul Talks

Following the inconclusive end of bilateral talks between Taliban officials and a Pakistani delegation in Istanbul, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid issued a statement outlining the details of the meeting and accused the Pakistani side of irresponsible behavior during the negotiations.

According to Mujahid, Taliban representatives attended the talks on November 6 and 7 under the direction of the group’s leadership and with the aim of finding a comprehensive solution. He said it was expected that the Pakistani delegation would approach the negotiations constructively and with adequate preparation, but that did not happen.

The Taliban spokesperson claimed the Pakistani delegation attempted to shift all security responsibilities onto the Taliban administration, while making no efforts or commitments to share the responsibility for mutual security.

Mujahid cited the lack of cooperation and seriousness on the part of Pakistan as the reason for the breakdown in talks. He added that despite mediation efforts by Turkey and Qatar, the meetings concluded without reaching a clear agreement.

Reiterating the Taliban’s position, Mujahid stated that no one will be allowed to use Afghanistan’s territory against another country. He added that the Taliban administration will also not permit any foreign entities to exploit Afghan soil to undermine the country’s independence and security.

In closing, Mujahid expressed hope that, despite political challenges, the relationship between the peoples of Afghanistan and Pakistan could be preserved based on brotherhood and shared interests. He characterized the defense of Afghan territory as both a national and religious duty, and said the administration would stand against any aggression with public support and divine assistance.
