Iran Emphasizes Boosting Trade Ties with Afghanistan via Chabahar Port

The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kabul has highlighted the potential of Chabahar Port—with its annual handling capacity exceeding six million tons—as a key driver in strengthening economic ties between Iran and Afghanistan.
According to the embassy, Iran aims to facilitate trade exchanges with Afghanistan by enhancing infrastructure such as silos, storage warehouses, and fuel tanks at the Shahid Beheshti port in Chabahar, as well as by expanding road and rail links to the Milak border crossing.
Alireza Bikdeli, Iran’s acting ambassador in Kabul, recently visited the Shahid Beheshti Port and Chabahar Free Trade Zone, where he met with local officials and several Afghan traders.
During these meetings, discussions specifically emphasized the need to accelerate the movement of goods between Chabahar and the Milak border and to eliminate existing transit barriers. This comes as the Taliban administration—despite pledges to strengthen regional transit—has yet to establish a suitable framework for effectively leveraging this trade route.
