Three Arrested for Drug Trafficking in Kabul and Paktia, Taliban Say

The Taliban’s Counter-Narcotics Directorate has announced the arrest of three individuals on charges of drug trafficking and distribution in the provinces of Kabul and Paktia.
According to the information provided, two suspects were apprehended in the Ahmadabad district of Paktia province with 33 kilograms of raw hashish and 75 kilograms of hashish seeds. The individuals were reportedly armed at the time of their arrest.
In a separate incident, Taliban police arrested another suspect in Kabul’s District 7 with two kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.
Although the Taliban administration frequently touts its anti-narcotics actions, the increasing production, trafficking, and consumption of drugs nationwide has raised serious questions about the effectiveness of its counter-narcotics infrastructure. Observers note the absence of a national strategy or a clear response to major drug trafficking networks.
