Taliban Arrest 25 in Afghanistan over Theft, Gambling, and Arms Trafficking

The Taliban administration has announced the arrest of at least 25 individuals on charges of theft, gambling, and arms trafficking across eight provinces in Afghanistan.

According to a recent statement from the Taliban police, eight residents of Balkh province were detained for gambling, while four individuals in Herat and three in Nimroz were arrested in connection with theft. Additionally, three suspects were detained in Parwan and two in Ghor provinces.

Two other individuals were arrested in Ghazni and Badghis on suspicion of stealing livestock and vehicles.

The Taliban authorities also reported the detention of three individuals in the Shorabak district of Kandahar province on suspicion of trafficking a specific quantity of weapons and ammunition.

These arrests come amid concerns over the lack of transparency in Afghanistan’s judicial system following the collapse of the previous legal order. Independent human rights organizations have expressed serious concern about widespread civil rights violations during Taliban detentions.
