Iran to Offer Online Education for Afghan Students Deported Without Documents

Iran has announced plans to provide online education for undocumented Afghan students who were recently deported from the country.
As Iran continues to forcibly expel undocumented Afghan migrants, a senior official from the Ministry of Interior said Tehran is prepared to facilitate remote learning for students who have returned to Afghanistan.
Nader Yarahmadi, the head of the Center for Migrants and Foreign Nationals at Iran’s Ministry of Interior, stated that following the implementation of the deportation plan, discussions began on offering distance education to Afghan students who had to leave Iran. According to him, although around 280,000 students have returned to Afghanistan, no formal requests for online education have been received and the initiative has not yet been welcomed.
Meanwhile, Yarahmadi noted, nearly 300,000 Afghan migrant students have enrolled in Iranian schools for the new academic year, with the registration process still ongoing. However, those who were deported now lack access to any education opportunities.
Yarahmadi emphasized that Iran’s Ministry of Interior remains willing to provide remote education services. He said that if there is interest, the ministry would offer the registration platform free of charge to returning migrant students, with internet costs being the only expense they would need to cover.
Human rights experts have warned that the Taliban’s harsh educational policies and its indifference to the needs of returning migrant children have placed these students in a vulnerable situation. So far, the Taliban administration has taken no significant steps to address the mass return of Afghan migrants and their educational requirements, leaving millions of Afghan children at risk of being deprived of education.
