UNICEF Treats Over 480,000 Malnourished Children in Afghanistan Amid Ongoing Humanitarian Crisis

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced that more than 480,000 children suffering from severe malnutrition have received treatment in Afghanistan this year. The figures come amid a worsening humanitarian situation in the country.
In a message posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), UNICEF emphasized the continuation of life-saving services and expressed gratitude to partner organizations and international donors for their support of Afghan children.
While providing medical care to vulnerable children can help ease the humanitarian crisis, the Taliban administration remains one of the main obstacles to aid delivery, creating barriers that limit access to assistance in various parts of the country.
Since the collapse of the previous government in 2021 and the Taliban’s return to power, child malnutrition has worsened across many provinces, especially in rural and remote areas. Health experts attribute the growing threat to children to poor governance and a lack of access to basic services under Taliban rule.
