Afghanistan Hosts National Food Security Conference Under Taliban Authority

The Taliban-run Ministry of Higher Education has announced the launch of a three-day national conference on food security and safety in Afghanistan. The event began today at the Afghanistan University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology in Nangarhar Province.
According to Ziaullah Hashimi, spokesperson for the ministry, university professors, researchers, scientists, and several senior Taliban officials from various provinces are attending the conference.
During the conference, dozens of scientific articles and research studies addressing the challenges and solutions related to food security will be presented. Once the conference concludes, the findings will be submitted to relevant ministries and responsible institutions for implementation.
While the organization of scientific conferences is viewed as a positive step, the Taliban administration remains under intense scrutiny over its restrictive approach to national engagement and the closure of independent academic institutions, raising serious concerns about its commitment to supporting scientific research and practical strategies for improving food security.
