Senior Taliban Security Official Visits Afghan Embassy in Tehran

Mullah Mohammad Ibrahim Sadr, a senior deputy in security affairs at the Taliban-run Ministry of Interior, visited the Afghan Embassy in Tehran at the head of a delegation. The visit took place on the sidelines of the fourth meeting of interior ministers from member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
During the meeting, Mawlawi Fazl Mohammad Haqqani, the acting Afghan ambassador in Tehran, presented a report on the embassy’s activities and detailed its challenges and achievements. He also discussed the issues faced in providing consular services and in engaging with the Afghan community residing in Iran.
The recent ECO summit was held in Tehran after a 15-year hiatus and was attended by the interior ministers of Tajikistan, Oman, Turkmenistan, and Pakistan, along with deputy ministers from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Iraq, and Azerbaijan.
Despite participating in such regional forums, the Taliban government remains unrecognized internationally, and its diplomatic practices and management of foreign missions continue to face serious scrutiny. Many Afghan embassies in neighboring countries operate under uncertain conditions due to personnel, legal, and political issues, highlighting the need for international oversight and greater accountability from those in charge.
