Two Pakistani Nationals Arrested in Pul-e-Khumri Over Gold Shop Thefts

Police in Pul-e-Khumri, the capital of Afghanistan’s Baghlan province, have arrested two Pakistani nationals—a man and a woman—on charges of a series of thefts targeting jewelry stores and money exchange offices in several provinces.
According to reports, the pair were apprehended by police while committing a robbery in Pul-e-Khumri. Authorities say they had carried out multiple thefts involving jewelry and cash over the past three days in the provinces of Kabul, Parwan, and Baghlan.
The police stated that stolen goods included approximately $6,000 worth of jewelry from Kabul, 150,000 Afghanis in valuables from Parwan, and $300 in cash from a money exchange office in Pul-e-Khumri. Some of the stolen property has been recovered, while efforts continue to retrieve the remaining assets and identify potential accomplices.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns about border control, police effectiveness, and the growing wave of organized crime amid the Taliban administration’s inability to ensure public safety and secure commercial markets.
