Taliban Claims Rehabilitation of 94 Drug Addicts in Nimroz Province

Taliban authorities in Nimroz province have announced that 94 individuals addicted to drugs have completed treatment at the province’s 1,000-bed hospital and have been returned to their families.
According to the Narcotics Control Police in Nimroz, these individuals had been previously gathered from various areas of the city and transferred to medical treatment centers. The Taliban’s campaign to collect addicts in Nimroz has largely been symbolic and lacked a sustainable plan.
Meanwhile, in Baghlan province, another 42 residents with drug addictions were returned to their families after receiving treatment overseen by a specific committee. However, no detailed information has been provided about the duration of treatment, the conditions within treatment centers, or the post-treatment support systems.
Social activists and civil organizations have repeatedly warned that reintegrating recovered addicts into society without proper programs and supervision could lead to relapse. While the Taliban considers the initiative a success, the absence of effective rehabilitation mechanisms has raised serious concerns.
