Taliban Appoints Amanuddin Mansoor as New Governor of Helmand

The Taliban administration has appointed Alhaj Mawlawi Amanuddin Mansoor as the new governor of Helmand province, officially introducing him during a ceremony held in the province.
The event was attended by officials from the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior Affairs as well as local civilian and military authorities. During their speeches, participants expressed appreciation for the outgoing governor’s work and called on the new governor to deliver improved services.
Abdul Rahman Kandahari, the former governor of Helmand, in his remarks, referred to what he described as the ‘sacrifices and struggles of the past twenty years’ and urged officials to cooperate with the new governor.
In his speech, Amanuddin Mansoor pledged to defend the rights of the people. However, he did not provide details on how he intends to fulfill this promise or what plans he has to improve services for Helmand’s residents.
Under the Taliban’s administration and the absence of legal legitimacy, such appointments are not only opaque but have also raised concerns over continued power monopolization and the restriction of public participation in local governance.
