Australian and EU Envoys Hold Talks on Afghanistan in Doha
Amanda McGregor, Australia’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, met with Gilles Bertrand, the European Union’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan, in Doha, Qatar.
According to a statement from the Australian Embassy for Afghanistan, the meeting served as an effective platform for exchanging views and discussing strategies on key issues such as security, migration, human rights, and other critical matters related to Afghanistan.
As the Taliban government in Afghanistan faces increasing accusations of blatant human rights violations and the suppression of public freedoms, such diplomatic engagements may help establish greater international coordination in response to the ongoing crises in the country.
The meeting between Australian and European officials outside Afghanistan once again highlights that the current environment under Taliban rule has disrupted possibilities for national dialogue and international engagement within the country.
