Taliban Delegation Attends ECO Economic Cooperation Summit in Tehran

The Taliban administration has announced that an official delegation, led by Ibrahim Sadr, Deputy Minister of Interior, has traveled to Tehran to participate in the fourth summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

According to a statement released by the Taliban, the visit aims to enhance regional cooperation and strengthen bilateral relations among ECO member states. Taliban Interior Ministry spokesman Abdul Matin Qane confirmed the trip, stating that the summit provides an opportunity to discuss regional economic and security issues.

The delegation comprises several Taliban security and diplomatic officials. Official sources from the Taliban administration named Ehsanullah Soheil, head of the Office of the Deputy for Security Affairs; an individual identified as Mahmood from the geospatial system of the Interior Ministry; and Ammar Mohajer, head of international organizations at the Taliban Foreign Ministry, as part of the team.

While the stated goal of this trip is to expand regional ties, the Taliban administration remains unrecognized internationally. Participation in such summits raises questions about the extent of global recognition of the Taliban and the stance of ECO member states toward the people of Afghanistan.
