Polio Vaccination Campaign Launched in Paktika Province

The ‘Polio-Free Afghanistan’ program has announced the launch of a new polio vaccination campaign across all districts of Paktika province, beginning Monday. Families are being encouraged to ensure their children receive the vaccine.

The campaign comes amid rising concerns following a recent World Health Organization report confirming two new cases of polio in the provinces of Badghis and Helmand. These cases have raised alarms about the potential resurgence of this paralyzing disease.

Initially, the polio vaccination program was piloted in select eastern provinces and has now been expanded to districts in Paktika. The campaign aims to improve child health and prevent the widespread transmission of polio.

Although the polio vaccine remains a critical tool in preventing the virus’s spread, the implementation of the program faces obstacles due to security challenges and restrictions imposed by Taliban authorities in certain areas. These challenges require immediate attention and improved facilitation from responsible institutions and the international community.
