Taliban Fail to Ensure Citizens’ Security, Former Official Halim Fadai Says

Halim Fadai, a former governor under the republic system and former advisor to the executive office, has described the armed attack on Topan Waziri as evidence of the Taliban administration’s inability to provide security for the country’s residents. He emphasized that the responsibility for protecting the life, dignity, and honor of every citizen now lies with the ruling structure.

He stated that seeking excuses instead of accountability amounts to shirking responsibility, and the Taliban administration cannot sidestep the ongoing insecurity. According to Fadai, ensuring the people’s safety is a fundamental duty and must not be sacrificed due to internal disputes or negligence.

Yesterday, unidentified armed individuals attacked Topan Waziri in Kandahar city, leaving him critically wounded. Reports indicate that after being transferred to a medical center, his condition is improving, and there is no immediate threat to his life.

In response to the incident, the Taliban administration claimed it was a personal matter related to a land dispute with no political motivations involved. However, in a recorded video while injured, Topan Waziri stated that the assailants are connected to Pakistan’s intelligence agencies and added that he was not allowed to use his personal weapon in self-defense.

Referring to these claims, Halim Fadai urged for a serious and transparent investigation rather than immediate dismissal or oversimplification to uncover the truth. He stressed that the lack of independent inquiry further undermines public trust.

Topan Waziri had left Afghanistan following the fall of the republic system but later returned through the Taliban’s contact commission; a return now marred by a violent attack and serious questions about the state of security in the country.
