WHO Commends Polio Vaccinators in Afghanistan Amid Security Challenges

The World Health Organization (WHO) has praised the ongoing efforts of polio vaccinators in Afghanistan for their role in protecting children against the disease. In a statement, the organization emphasized the importance of every drop of the vaccine and the value of every child’s life, calling the work of health staff vital in eradicating polio worldwide.

According to the WHO, these vaccinators continue their mission despite serious challenges, particularly in the face of difficult security conditions and restrictions imposed by the Taliban authorities. Their commitment, the organization says, is key to ensuring a polio-free future for Afghan children.

While polio cases have significantly declined in recent years, the WHO warns that persistent restrictions on health organizations and Taliban-imposed barriers to house-to-house visits have hindered the goal of complete virus eradication.

The WHO expressed gratitude for the dedication of healthcare workers and called for broader national and international cooperation to provide polio vaccination teams with the freedom and support needed to carry out their work effectively.
